Our paper below on discovery of neighbor mobile nodes using directional wireless links (e.g., free-space optical or mmWave) has been accepted to Ad Hoc Networks. We mechanically steer a directional transceiver on each mobile until a full 3-way handshake can be performed while the transceivers are in line-of-sight (LOS). The technique does not need GPS and uses randomized angular speeds during the steering. It has applications in RF-challenged environments and emerging mmWave and optical wireless bands.
