Project Description

Our project is called the Aquarium Lighting and Resource Monitor, or A.L.A.R.M. for short. We are building a controller for an aquarium. This controller will test the quality of the water, control the lights for the aquarium, test for leaks and display the attributes of the aquarium. The controller will be powered with a 28V PV panel which we have designed and plan to build. We will also have power from the wall as backup power in case the PV panel cannot supply sufficient power to the system. The controller will have buttons for changing settings on the controller. We are also designing a website to set the settings of the system so that the user can control the system from anywhere. The A.L.A.R.M. will be able to alert the user through email if anything with the aquarium goes wrong (such as out of regular temperature range for too long, leak detection is activated, etc). The website will also keep track of power management for the system by taking readings from current sensors located on the relay board. These readings will track the power used month to month by the system.
