The motivation behind picking this project was our desire for a mentor in the process of working through our senior design project. As a group we knew there were projects that we could push through by looking up many things on the internet, which we definitely will still have to do, but as a team we decided to heavily pursue the option of a guided project. Once this fact was established we set our main goal to assisting our newfound team in any way possible. .

The objective of this project is to provide support to the Applied Cognition and Training in an Immersive Environment (ACTIVE) Lab at UCF by designing a model of a nuclear power plant control panel, both digital and physical. The purpose of this is to model the technology being used today, analog systems, while also introducing innovative technology, digital control systems, to collect data on the differences when paired with human interaction. Once we provide the ACTIVE lab with our project, they will be conducting user studies to provide information to the Nuclear Regulatory Committee (NRC) about the risks and rewards of transitioning to digital control systems. The team chose this project because we wanted to gain experience in working for a customer and meeting their needs, in addition to being very interested in the research conducted by the ACTIVE Group.
