Group 2 CREOL
Frequency Resolved Electrical Gating Device for Laser Pulse Analysis
Project Description
The proposed project is an apparatus for the characterization of ultra-short, low energy optical pulses.
This apparatus is necessary as ultra-short optical pulses, specifically those on the order of a few picoseconds in duration, cannot be measured by typical photodetectors alone.
This is due to limits in photodetector electrical response times with respect to electron transit time and inherent capacitances and resistances within the device circuitry.
Thus, to circumvent the limits of electronic circuitry, we aim to build a FREG (Frequency-Resolved Electrical Gating) system. The device will take in a laser pulse,
analyze it, and display the results on a connected computer through a program that we design.
