The ECO-SEC Home Security System is a fully functioning security system that is capable of detecting the presence of intruders in a user's home. The ECO-SEC system was developed as a means to provide security system that is environmentally friendly while still being affordable by lower income individuals. The need for this system arose from the concern of the members of Group 10 about the growing rate of crime in neighboorhoods surrounding the University of Central Florida. Since many students are unable to afford most security systems the team strove to develop an affordable solution to this problem.

The ECO-SEC Home Security system protects the user's home from intruders by using three seperate sensors. The first detects when a window or door has been opened. The second detects when glass from a door or window is broken. The third detects the presence of intruders already in the home by using an infrared motion detector. When ever the ECO-SEc system detects an intruder the system sounds an audible alarm as well as immediately sends an email alert indicating an intrusion has occured to an email address chosen by the user as well as the users cellular device as a text message. The user can control the operation of the system locally using a LCD touch screen interface or remotely by visiting a website for the system.

The entire ECO-SEC system only contains six main subsystems. The first is a microprocessor that the ECO-SEC uses to control the logic for the system. The second is a LCD touch screen display that is used to create a physical interface for the user to use to interact with the system. The third is an embedded web server that is used to host a website to allow the user to remotely control the system. The fourth is a security camera use to allow the user to view the status of their home. The fifth is a series of sensors used to detect the presence of intruders. The sixth and final subsystem is used to provide power to the indiviual components of the ECO-SEC system. Full details on the technical specifications for the ECO-SEC can be found in the documentation included in this website.
