Project Summary:

The purpose of this project was to design a quick and effective method to inspect the Steel Wire Cables used by the United Launch Alliance for the emergency egress system located on the Crew Access Tower. Our goal was to create an effective and easy to use method that could replace the routine checks that have to occur everytime there is a significant weather event or launch at the site. To achieve this goal our inspection tool employs both hall sensors monitoring the magnetic flux through the cable to pinpoint problem areas in conjunction with a visual camera system so that they may inspect the cable without having to send a person out to visually inspect it by hand.
