Group 18: Solar Picnic Table

Project Description

For many people, going outside is an important aspect of living a healthy lifestyle. Another key aspect in almost everyone’s life is technology. Everyday, we interact with all sorts of technology whether it be our phones, the computer, or our cars. However, with the advancements and increased usage of technology, one factor that we must keep in mind is how it will affect the environment. With this in mind, as a senior design group, we wanted to create a project that would incorporate technology and enhance people’s outdoors experience, but at the same time, one that wouldn’t pose a threat to the natural environment. This is when we came up with the idea of a solar powered picnic table. This table will be equipped with quality of life improvements including: motion sensor activated LEDs, power outlets for charging, battery monitoring, and temperature/humidity readings. All of these will be displayed through a mobile app that the user can connect with using bluetooth. In addition, all of these features will be powered using a solar panel which will keep the table eco-friendly.
