LIDAR Environment Modeler

Group 10

Scan example

Project Overview

The goal of this project was to implement a LIDAR based scanning system that is capable of taking distance measurements from its environment and communicate them to a laptop application in order to render a point cloud. The device implements an open source rangefinder in conjunction with custom optics and an eyesafe, infrared laser. Control of the laser and onboard processing is done using a custom designed PCB. During a scan, the point data is streamed to a laptop via Bluetooth where it is rendered in a user-facing, graphical application.
