Kalpathy B. Sundaram is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Central Florida. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Indiana Institute of Technology in 1980 and has since built a distinguished academic and research career in microelectronics and materials science.

His research focuses on thin-film microelectronic materials and processing, optoelectronic thin-film materials, and protection design and simulation. His work contributes to the development of advanced materials used in electronic and photonic devices, including studies on thin films such as boron carbon nitride (BCN) for improved optical and electronic performance.

Professor Sundaram has been actively involved in both teaching and academic leadership, serving in roles such as undergraduate program coordinator within his department. He is also a senior member of IEEE and a fellow of the Electrochemical Society, reflecting his long-standing contributions to engineering education and research.
