From advancing human understanding of artificial intelligence systems to developing systems that reduce our reliance on batteries, our researchers are developing world-changing solutions that keep us at the forefront of ever-changing technology. At the UCF Department of Electrical and Computer and Engineering, we boast a diverse and growing faculty that’s been recognized locally, nationally and internationally for its innovative research in energy efficiency for wireless devices, optimizing power systems models to help electrical grids operate at peak efficiency and developing adaptive building control technologies that can lead to a more sustainable future.

Our academic programs, consistently ranked among the top programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, are led by some of the most prominent experts within electrical and computer engineering fields, including computer systems and architectures, cyber-physical systems micro- and nano-systems and electromagnetics. Our students’ academic journeys are complemented by cutting-edge research experiences that help them develop innovative problem-solving skills. They have myriad opportunities to publish their discoveries, present their innovations to peers and industry professionals, and bring their imaginative ideas to life under the guidance of faculty mentors who are engaged in a wide range of sponsored and commercialized research.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is housed within the College of Engineering and Computer Science, one of 13 colleges at UCF. It includes the Florida Power & Light and GE Digital Microgrid Control Lab, a state-of-the-art research facility featuring control-center equipment and software to simulate and test real-life grid control operations, designed to help find ways to optimize and secure the grid of the future. Our department also partners with industry giants such as Intel, Texas Instruments, AMD and Northrop Grumman to provide our students with mentorships and the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge to the real world through undergraduate internships.

We’re also located in sunny Orlando, Florida, near the top theme parks in the world, a major international airport, beautiful beaches and cultural venues such as the Orlando Museum of Art and the Dr. Philips Center for the Performing Arts. Moreover, we’re conveniently located near major engineering companies such as AMD, Intel, Texas Instruments, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and Siemens Energy, to name a few.
