The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering hosted a celebration of service to honor associate professor Dr. Arthur “Art” Weeks, Ph.D. and his wife Dian for a 35-year career at UCF.

Dr. Weeks earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from UCF in 1984 and 1987 respectively. With the exception of serving as vice president of corporate technology and director of engineering for In Vivo Research from 1999-2002, he has dedicated his entire career to UCF, teaching more than 20 classes across multiple disciplines.

Numerous friends and colleagues joined in the celebration, including Drs. M.J. Soileau (former UCF VP of research), Sam Richie, Zhihua Qu (former ECE chair), Kalpathy Sundaram and the CECS dean Michael Georgiopoulos, who all shared their fondest memories of working with Dr. Weeks over the years.

Their praise of Dr. Weeks shared a common thread: his steadfast commitment to his students.

“One particular thing that distinguishes Art from the rest is his dedication to students and his passion for teaching,” said Dr. Georgiopoulos. “I’m honored that I got to know him and appreciate all that he has done for our students.”

In his closing remarks Dr. Weeks shared some of his memorable interactions with his colleagues and his students throughout the years and expressed his desire to continue helping the ECE department after taking a relatively short break.
