First Place Best Student Paper Award at IEEE IMS 2020

August 6, 2020

ECE Ph.D. student, Yuchen Cao and his advisor, Prof. Kenle Chen, won the 1st Place award out of 30 finalists in Student Paper Competition at the IEEE International Microwave Symposium 2020 (IMS2020). Congratulations!

Their paper is entitled “Dual-Octave-Bandwidth RF-Input Pseudo-Doherty Load Modulated Balanced Amplifier with ≥10-dB Power Back-off Range”. It presents a novel radio-frequency power amplifier architecture, named Pseudo-Doherty Load Modulated Balanced Amplifier. The reported prototype concurrently offers high efficiency and unparalleled bandwidth that effectively doubles the upper limit of state-of-the-art. This technology promises an ideal solution to arbitrary multi-band/multi-mode radio transmissions for energy-efficient 5G-and-beyond communications.

IEEE International Microwave Symposium is the flagship conference of radio frequency (RF) and microwave community with over 10,000 attendees each year from academia, industry, and government. The Student Paper Competition (SPC) is held to identify and recognize outstanding technical contributions from individual students. The finalists were selected out of more than 300 accepted student papers worldwide.
